MICHAEL FELT THE EXACT moment that Quinn fell asleep. Her weight settled into him completely and her breathing changed. His arm tightened momentarily around her as he reveled in the moment of Quinn lying in his arms.
After her adamant rejection only a couple of days ago, he would never have imagined this happening.
When heâd first noticed her across the room at Maeve and Ethanâs engagement party, heâd been so struck by her beauty that heâd found himself pushing aside his plans to leave Seagull Cove. Shortly after, heâd been slapped in the face by her turning him down, and now she was cuddled into his chest as if she trusted him more than anyone else in the world and Michael was struggling to remember why he had bothered to update his resume.
He reached up with his free hand and rubbed the back of his neck. It almost felt as if he had whiplash as badly as Quinn did. But still...he couldnât find himself arguing with the outcome.
His gaze drifted to the window. The rain looked like it had nearly stopped, and the sound of the wind had lessened, he was sure of it. The darkness looked foreboding, but Michael began to wonder just how much longer he had with her.

He squished his lips to the side. He was tired. Dog tired, but Quinn needed to come first. Carefully, as carefully as heâd ever done anything in his entire life, Michael shifted her until he was able to slip out and put her head on a pillow.
The loss of her hold cut him to the core and he realized his attraction was becoming much deeper than anything heâd ever experienced before. If he didnât know any better, he would say he was on the verge of falling in love with this woman.
He let his fingers trail along her bruised cheekbone and remove a curl that had slipped over her forehead. He didnât want to go, but he wanted her to feel better more.
Taking a deep breath, he headed to the door. âCrud.â Before leaving, he went back to the icy cold bedroom and changed into his original clothes. âAt least that means Iâll have something dry to come back to,â he muttered as he jerked on his stiff jeans. Who knew that denim wasnât a fan of mud and rain?
After getting himself as settled as he could, he went to the door again, his hand on the knob, and hesitated. Glancing over his shoulder, he
